Title: Watching You
32 x 47"
Weight: 35.0 lbs.
"Watching You' is a classic style figurative oil painting by contemporary artist Samantha Meeker. It is painted on wood panel. It is not framed and generally hung flush to wall as it is. The sides are painted white and come out approximately 4 inches from the wall. Although it is hard to tell from the photograph because the color is so light, the background is painted a pale teal color.
This painting will be on display for the month of May at the Atlanta Painters Spring 2010 Exhibition in Atlanta, Georgia. Samantha won First Place at the exhibition for this painting.

Ever since she can remember, Samantha was surrounded and encouraged to pursue the arts. Both of her parents were artists, her father an illustrator and mother a decorative artist. After several years putting off her talent for the “sensible route,” she finally made the full time commitment to her art work.
It had been a lifelong dream of hers to be able to paint the figure realistically. So with wonderful encouragement from her husband, while raising and having more children she pursued and finished her BFA in Painting focusing on the figure as her main subject matter.
Unique to her, she not only sought to paint the figure, she sought after the techniques of the Old Master's like Titian, Rembrandt, Velasquez, Gentileschi and many other Renaissance painters. She studies them and takes elements of their techniques and combines them with her own to have something unique.
Recently graduated, Samantha’s work has been selected into national juried exhibitions in Pennsylvania and Alexandria, Virginia. Her work is currently being shown in Atlanta and her painting "Watching You" was selected for First Place in the Atlanta Painters Spring 2010 Exhibition. She was also selected by the City Gallery in North Charleston, South Carolina for an upcoming two person exhibition.
Since the beginning of my painting adventures, I have sought after the techniques of the Old Master's. I continually work to apply them in my work in a contemporary manner. As of now, my subject matter is mainly focused on the figure. Painting the figure is so intriguing because of the fleshy qualities that vary so much from person to person. I find it very challenging and satisfying at the same time. Currently I'm working on a series that is focused on the nature of the bonds of a woman and man's relationship. What will he do for her just to keep her to himself? How far can she push him without losing him? Lots of similar questions and thoughts are arising through my mind as I compose these paintings. In the past, my focus was on fighters. They were representative of conflict and struggle. At the time it was in tune with my struggle to paint and achieve my goals as an artist.
