Ofelia Marquez

Biography

Ofelia was born and raised in southern California. Her parents were both born and raised in the rural outskirts of Mexico; this cultural background has built a foundation for many of her artworks. After high school, which was the turning point for her career as an artist she decided it would be best to go to an art school that would further establish her skills and natural talent as an artist. Ofelia then went to the Laguna College of Art and Design were she successfully graduated with a BFA- Cum Laude and now she seeks to further her career as an artist by expressing herself in as many ways possible.

Artist Statement

To Convey the deep inner emotions of the human psyche in a progressive manner that intersect the future with the ancient. By focusing on surreal imagery it allows the viewer to separate his or herself from the emotional content of the image and thus focus on a intellectual interpretation of what is happening within the composition. The ancestral techniques and stylings; such as wood carving sharp line work and two-dimensional shapes and patterns, allow for the composition to be firmly rooted in reality giving each peace an ancient feel.
