Artist Statement

When Deanie Nyman began using her camera professionally, a previous career in marketing professional services led naturally to helping clients promote their work with images that illustrate their aesthetics and capabilities. 

One of her first clients was a garden designer and, with that first shoot, a passion was born for this special area of photography requiring absolute attention to the subtlest change of light, the slightest breeze, the smallest distracting detail.  

In stark contrast to the deliberate combinations and compositions of garden and landscape design, is the magnificent natural power of a desert landscape. Deanie’s love of the unsentimental beauty of the desert is matched only by her love of photographing it.

Long days exploring unfamiliar territory--usually beginning and ending in the dark--often present adverse weather conditions, difficult access problems, and hours of patient waiting for the light to change. Those days inject a sense of adventure into an otherwise careful city life, and present an opportunity to seize a moment or two from nature’s subtle but relentless march into the future.
