Anna Judd

Biography

Anna Judd was born July 31, 1984. She attended the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA in 2002 and is currently attending California State University, Fullerton majoring in fine art. She resides in Santa Ana, CA with her partner and her dog, Bonsai. When she isn’t creating art, Anna spends her time running, biking, playing in several rock bands, and practicing yoga.

Artist Statement

There is a constant and eternal slide-show taking place in my mind’s eye. Brightly colored images flash for an instant and then disappear. Before I have a chance to process the meaning of the first image, there is another to replace it, equally engaging as the previous. And then another. I am an artist because I am too distracted by the beauty and ugliness of this world to be anything else. Creating original fine art has become a spiritual necessity for me, a daily ritual of meditation and contemplation. I cultivate inspiration by spending long hours in nature, watching how the light changes behind the different colors of leaves. While I paint a tree, I experience the spirit of it, feeling the spiraling upward movement of the trunk as its verdant, luxuriant branches for the sun. As I paint the human figure, I find something in each face that resonates with me, extricating the genuine emotion behind each expression and empathizing with it.

I continue to believe that there is a level of perfection and mastery of skill attainable in each brush stroke, each painting, each artist. I know that I have yet to reach that level of perfection, but I strive to make each painting complete and sincere. Through my paintings, I hope to convey some universal truth, an uncontaminated glimpse at the human condition. We live on a planet that is ridden with disease, violence, hunger and poverty. Still, in polluted oceans and overcrowded slums, there is unspeakable beauty that gives us hope. My desire is to put a face to this hope and to share it with the world.
