DeAnne Olguin Williamson grew up in the Mojave desert town of Barstow, California. Having a father who was a landscape oil painter she was always encouraged to pursue art. DeAnne attended San Diego State University and then went on to a successful career in graphic design. After taking a 3 year break to study art history in Europe, she decided to pursue her longtime love of fine art. She has found her unique artistic point of view by working with mixed media on canvas. She utilizes collage to represent the underlying expression in her work. Newspapers, magazines, old comics, advertisements and the like have all found their way into her work. She embraces the idea of recasting remnants of the past and giving them a new more contemporary role to play. Her figures and flowers are painted in acrylic and work together with the collage to convey the overall emotional expression. The two parts to her process are always integrated. Even though she allows her approach to the collage to be loose, it is still crafted in such a way to tell the story of the images it is composed with. The collage and the figures become one. One media informing the other. Opposite but the same. The organic embracing the industrial. The emotional embracing the analytical. She believes that art should not only look beautiful, but should also have soulful messages that stir emotions. DeAnne has showcased her work all over Southern California.
I believe that art should not only look beautiful, but should have soulful messages that stir emotions. I utilize collage to represent the underlying expression in my work. Newspapers, magazines, old comics, advertisements and the like have all found their way into my work. I try not to think too much about where I am going with my expression but rather, allow it to happen and then follow where it takes me. I always welcome interpretation of my work because I feel that it is the interpretation of the viewer that actually is the final element.
