Marcel Kahhak
Biography
Marcel Kahhak was born in Morocco and educated in France. In 1980, he resigned a career as a French professor to devote himself to art. This brought him to America, where he has devoted 30 years to creation and teaching, supplemented by European sojourns. Although he initially schooled himself in Realism, his vision matured along the lines of Impressionism, Expressionism, Action Painting, and currently, Abstraction. Marcel believes that style is only a tool to express the “momentness” of personal creativity. He teaches art classes and workshops that uncover the unique creativity in every student. The artist also paints live, on location, at special musical and sports events. His presence has been requested by prestigious institutions such as Georgetown University, the Kennedy Center, the Aspen Jazz Festival, the National Women’s Museum and the Skin’s Game. In addition, Marcel has given many motivational presentations/painting demonstrations for noteworthy organizations, including TIAA-CREF.
Artist Statement
“Whether the painting process lasts 20 minutes or 20 days, the aim is to bypass my ordinary functioning, to allow my higher faculties to kick in. I attempt to experience and express simultaneously. Paint is brushed on, troweled in, or thrown and splashed on the canvas as the flow dictates. 'Accidents' are integrated or altered. During the process, learning is mostly subliminal; however, astonishing discoveries unravel later."
