I am a self-taught artist whose love of all things nature and appreciation of my surroundings has translated into the subject matter for my talents. Drawing horses as a young girl, and learning to “see” more of what was in front of me in high school was where my passion for art began. I was accepted into the art program at East Carolina University, but left before graduation to raise a family.
Art to me is not trying to improve upon what mother nature has provided us, but rather trying to capture the beauty that is already there, in large doses and in small vignettes that are so easy to overlook. I do not presume to try to make a scene look better, but learn to frame & compose what has been provided, and portray it in as realistic a manner as I can. I try to make myself aware of the colors, atmospheres, and emotions that present themselves to me, and use my camera to record the details and anything I may not remember. I enjoy challenging myself by trying different media and styles, but seem to gravitate back to the realism that I love and oils, pastels, and pencils that are most comfortable for me to use.
Self-taught, with one semester as art major at East Carolina University.
My works have been juried into numerous national competitions, including Southeast Spectrum; Animals in Art; Arts for the Parks (Top 200 5 times); Degas Pastel Society; MPSGS Miniature Show; Art of the Miniature; Miniature Art Society of Florida; Ducks Unlimited; Paint America, and many local shows. There have been several local solo shows, including the Raleigh Womens Club , NC Museum of Art’s “Art of the Auction”, and the NC Museum of Natural Science among others. I have produced a series of prints for the Florida Libraries for 22 years.
