With a life-long passion for art, Karen Hansen has been painting full time since 2001. She earned her degree in Fine Art from Augsburg College in Minneapolis, MN. She followed that with 22 years in the field of animation. The film making took her to studios all over the world in a fascinating and challenging industry but painting full time was always her dream. And now she’s living her dream. Hansen's award winning paintings have been exhibited widely in both group and solo shows. Her work can be found in private and public collections across the United States as well as Europe. In addition, her paintings have been featured in various television productions. She has also served as an exhibition juror. Hansen is a native of Chicago. In 1985, after many brutal winters in the Midwest, she came to the Los Angeles area and fell in love with sun-drenched Southern California. She now lives in there with her husband and her cat.
My paintings are atmospheric abstractions of meditation and memory. They are entry points to the rhythms and the quiet mysteries of our lives. These serene paintings, with their subtle complexity, are layered translucently in search of radiance, nuance and depth. They evolve through a process of exploration, experimentation, revision and intuition. Above all, they are an expression of my curiosity, my love for the materials of my craft and the joy I feel when I paint. We shall not cease from exploration And the end of all our exploring Will be to arrive where we started And know the place for the first time. T. S. Eliot from "Little Gidding"
