Jeff Gettis

Biography

Jeff Gettis was born and raised on Long Island N.Y. and currently resides in Connecticut.  He has been exhibiting continuously for the past 30 years, focusing on realism with an impressionistic and tonalist sensibility.  Gettis draws inspiration from local surroundings always trying to infuse his paintings with a sense of subtle mystery and drama.  Pastels are his medium of choice with his latest work, but Gettis has also worked extensively in oils and acrylics.  The pastels on panel are sprayed with diluted acrylic during the working process. When finished an acrylic isolation coat is applied, than a removable varnish. The work is framed without glass and cared for exactly like an acrylic painting.

Artist Statement

The pastels are conceived in a non traditional manner extending the versatility of the medium in an always surprising way to me, and hopefully to the viewer.
