Francesca Gnagnarella
Biography
I was born in Italy in 1984, now I live and work in Perth. I’ve always been very creative, but I started to develop my artist techniques during high school, with painting on ceramics and glass. I also pursued photography studies at this time. In 2004 under tutelage of sculptor Vito Pancella I began my artistic career creating the bronze sculpture Partage’ . I decided however, that painting was the area where I wanted to concentrate most of my artist endeavors. While studying art in Rome and Paris I developed my own painting technique. I started exhibiting in group shows in Paris in April 2006 and I had my first solo exhibition in Rome in May 2006. I had exhibitions throughout the world prior to finishing my degree in History of Contemporary Art. My interest in black and white photography continued as a secondary artistic enterprise with the Parisian Feet collection receiving acclaim. Since completing my studies, I have continued to paint, with my own style evolving. I have also increased my knowledge of art through my work in Paris at the Picasso Atelier. My works are currently in the collections of Set Produzioni Cinematografiche and Parablo’ Risto Pub in Rome, Santa Croce church in Florence, The Twisted Vine, Perth and various private collections in Italy and Australia, including the one of the Director of the Art Gallery of Western Australia.
Artist Statement
My world is made of colors and ideas. So when I begin a painting I commence with a concept that emerges from thought, where sense and nonsense collide into a fantastic atmosphere that merges into symbolic scenery reconnecting with the original idea. To create is nothing else than to remember something that is in the depth of our souls, and revive it in the evanescence of color drops, ready to be spread in new dimensions. My research continues with the smear of colors that I love so much. I think that learning to paint helps one find and re-experience innocence, celebrating with Alice the birthday-not-birthday of everyday.
