Joel Wittlif was born into a world of creativity. At a young age he discovered the wonders that appeared on book covers and in magazines. In School he would always set up art competitions with his class mates. After 2 years in college he joined the Army and spent much of his time over seas. This gave him the opportunity to see great classical and modern works in person. Today he continues to cherish the wonders of the world around him, and seeks to capture inspiration where ever it is found.
The simplicity of a pencil is deceptive. A pencil has been picked up and used by every one at some point. However, with a simple pencil beauty, humor and gesture can be captured in great detail. With a pencil I seek to explore texture and form using various techniques on paper. My subjects include still-life, figurative and portraiture. I love to be challenged and seek subjects that are full of detail.
