Tom Lockhart
Biography
Tom Lockhart is a self taught artist growing up in a small rural town in Southern Colorado. After graduating with a BFA in The Fine Arts, Tom decided this was not the direction he wanted to pursue. Spending every spare minute teaching himself how to paint and reading self help instructional art books, along with the study of the Great Masters, Tom was encouraged to continue further study in the fine art of easel painting. Several workshops later and studying with working professional artists Tom soon realized he was on the path to continue in the Representational area of painting. After 20 plus years as a working Fine Artist and with several National publications and exhibitions to his name, Tom is certainly on his way to be one of Americas Top Representational Landscape Artists.
Artist Statement
I believe that art is transcending of the human spirit. Every individual sees and responds to images in a different manner. I am constantly striving to achieve the feeling of light and three dimension in my painting. I am not only trying to reflect the mood of the moment, but the sense of the scene as I see it. I am not out to recreate the landscape or to copy it, but to suggest my interpretation. I am thrilled by the journey as well as the influence of the application of brush and paint. To suggest something with a few brush strokes is much more profound than to render it to death. It is better to know the rules and to break them, than to be oblivious of the knowledge of paint and to flounder.
