Casey Shea

Biography

I first used an SLR camera 15 years ago when I enrolled in a high school photography class. I continued studying photography into junior college and finally at CSUF where I was in one of the last classes to use film and first to use digital equipment. I earned a bachelor’s degree in communications with an emphasis in TV/film and have since found innumerable correlations between filmmaking and photography as visual story telling. I spent nearly 5 years working with one of Orange County’s premier wedding photographers, a leading female in the industry who provided not only great inspiration but invaluable experience. I began working for myself just over 2 years ago and love having my own business. I enjoy trying new things and photographing whatever pleases my eyes and hope to continue to do so as a full time participant in this beautiful life.

Artist Statement

I like to refer to myself as a participant not an artist because I think I’m just participating in life the way I know how and I end up creating photographs. I also love being a quiet observer, a requirement of being a professional photographer, and a participant in this life so I spend time in both roles. I define participants as consciously doing, being and enjoying it all. It seems to me that more and more people are waking up to their truth and to the idea that they want to participate more fully in life. The subjects of my photography change drastically from one scene to the next as I enjoy the quiet beauty in nature, the loud paint and signs man made, the clothes we wear and people creating music, dancing and working but best of all playing. I am so appreciative of my clients who allow me to make a living doing what I love.

- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, TV/Film from CSUF 2000 - 5 years as Associate Photographer and Studio Manager for Karen French Photography – the most published wedding photographer in the US - Photoshop courses and On-going training / workshops each year - Member of WPPI, wedding and portrait photographers international - Member of WPOC, a local group of women photographers
