RICHARD RANSIER Artist, Photographer and Film Maker Richard Ransier was born in Fayetteville, North Carolina. Ransier spent most of his early years traveling the world, living with his corporate parents in a variety of cities across the United States. In 1974, his family settled in West Los Angeles, California where Ransier attended and graduated University High School.
It was through a photography class in high school that Ransier first discovered his fascination with painting, design and photography. Upon graduation from high school, Ransier enrolled at Arizona State College with the eclectic majors of business, music and photography. While in college, Ransier met his mentor, a multi-media artist named Allen Dutton. According to Ransier, "Allen was a true Renaissance Man -- he was an accomplished life photographer, photo illustrator, experimental film maker and fine art painter.
Ransier was inspired by the variety and multi-faceted depth of Allen Dutton's work. He felt blessed to have Allen as a mentor and worked closely with him for several years. During this important learning time, Allen taught Ransier to open his mind and to explore all avenues of artistic expression. Most specifically, Allen taught Ransier how to use a camera to effectively capture any person, any idea, and all emotions. Design and photography clearly was established as Ransier's calling which brought him back to the west coast. He enrolled at Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California where he majored in photography.
He also entered the Masters program in film. While at Art Center, Ransier began freelancing and gained a local following as a product and beauty photographer which allowed him to open his first photographic studio in Pasadena, California.
His reputation as a creative designer and innovative photographer rapidly grew with prestigious assignments from Disney, NBC, Warner Brother Studios, Kodak, Coke Cola, Visa. It also spread through his editorial assignments with Los Angeles Magazine, American Health Magazine, Buzz Magazine, L.A. Style, Aldus Magazine, and Westway Magazine. With all of Ransier’s experience in visual art and design, painting has always been a natural form of expression for him. His debut collection of paintings titled “Fractured Lines” takes you into his world of diverse forms of collage, lines, graphics, textures, contrast and bold colors. This collection represents Ransier’s next level of exploration into the fine art world!
I am an award winning professional photographer, designer and creative director for over 15 years. Conceptual vocabulary in the commercial world is a very controlled and mapped-out process once a concept is approved. Painting is a very slow art. It doesn't travel with the speed of light like photography and that is why I started to paint. Painting you must forget all your theories, all your ideas before you start to be original. What part of these is really your own will be expressed in your emotion the paint finds along the way.
Jackson Pollock once said "I have no fear of making changes, destroying the image, because the painting has a life of its own." It truly is one of the things I love about the process. The paint is a much better artist than I am, and it almost always does something more interesting than anything I could invent as long as I'm paying attention.
