Katie Leonard

Biography

Katie Leonard is a native of Denver, Colorado. She spent time studying in Boston and Italy before graduating from the College of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina with a BA in studio art. Her artworks focus primarily on the development and destruction of images with a subject matter ranging from charred trees to abandoned buildings. Her photographs often have layers of manipulated scratches and color tones, creating images with an altered or aged appearance. She now lives in Brooklyn, New York where she continues her artwork with both film photography and photo etching.

Awards

Katie was awarded the 1st Place President’s Award for the Salon Des Refuses in 2005 at the Halsey Institute of Contemporary Art. In 2006 she was selected as an ‘Under the Radar’ Emerging Artist by Charleston Magazine.
